Here in the Finger Lakes region, we have some of the most beautiful and priceless natural resources in the world. Our area supports a vibrant tourism industry, an amazing wine region, and is home to a diverse ecosystem. I firmly believe we must do everything possible to protect all the Finger Lakes as well as their watersheds.
That is why I worked closely with Hobart and William Smith College President, Mark Gearan, to establish the Finger Lakes Institute. The Finger Lakes Institute is a powerful advocate for our lakes, providing important research and information that promotes true action and change to protect our environment.
Because the Finger Lakes Institute is now at the cutting edge of environmental research, I will continue to work with them on important environmental issues that impact our region, including the continued cleanup of Owasco Lake, the management of invasive species in the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario, as well as natural gas mining in New York State.
